Fighting Illegal Downloading with Vinyl Albums

Proximity to Present Advantages of Increasing Production and Distribution of Vinyl Albums at 2010 New Markets/New Media Conference

Towson, MD-May 1, 2010- Proximity, the leading Gen-Y media consulting group, announced today that Tyler Harris, lead researcher for Proximities music division will be presenting at the 2010 New Markets/New Media Conference on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at the Burkshire Marriott conference Hotel in Towson, MD. The topic, “Fighting Illegal Downloading with Vinyl Albums.” As many Gen Y’s are now getting their music by way of illegal downloading, the music industry must come up with another plan of generating profit.

Over the recent years, Gen Y has changed the way they obtain music. The following are key ways that vinyl album production can help to generate profit for the music companies:

· Artists can gain recognition for their work by advertising on vinyl album covers, which leads to profit for the record company; an example of this is Stanley Mouse and Alton Kelley-artists for the Grateful Dead.
· Vinyl albums are much harder to pirate than CD’s, and creating a need for vinyl albums will therefore reduce the risk of piracy.
· Vinyl sales have dramatically gone up in recent years and many experts feel they will eventually outsell CD’s.

“One thing we know about Gen-Y is they expect all of their media to be free,” said Tyler Harris. “When it comes to getting their music, this is no exception, the music companies must find another way to generate profit, and their best chance is to increase production of vinyl albums.”
